This repository includes the oxygenation and blood supply data of three quadriceps muscles [vastus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM), and rectus femoris (RF)] during the descent (eccentric) and ascent (concentric) phases of squatting exercise. Data were collected from eighteen young resistance-trained males who performed 5 sets of parallel high-bar back squat in a Smith machine, with 15 repetitions each: two warm-up sets [at 14% and 45% of 15-repetition-maximum (15RM)] and 3 main sets at 100% 15RM. Three NIRS devices were attached to VL, VM and RF to record muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2), as a measure of muscle oxygenation, and total hemoglobin (tHb), as a measure of blood supply.
Quadriceps muscle oxygenation and blood supply undulate during each repetition of squatting exercise
