The Department of Agronomy of the Alexandreio TEI of Thessaloniki operates from the Academic Year 2013-2014 with three (3) directions, according to Presidential Decree 82, Government Gazette 123 AD / 3-6-2013: a) Crop Production Direction (FP), b) Direction of Animal Production (ZP) and c) Direction of Agricultural Economy (AO), and resulted from the merger of the former Departments: a) Crop Production, b) Animal Production and c) Agricultural Development and Management of Agricultural Enterprises.
At the same time, the Schools of Agricultural Technology and Food and Nutrition Technology of the Alexandreio TEI of Thessaloniki were merged into the School of Agricultural Technology and Food and Nutrition Technology (STEGTETROD). The Department of Agronomy is one of the three Departments of STEGTETROD of the Alexandriou TEI of Thessaloniki.
The Department of Agricultural Technologists currently has 30 OP members, 2 members as Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) and 5 members as Special Technical Laboratory Staff (EIB). The Department currently has about 3,000 students, where they are distributed in all three directions of the Department.
The Department of Technological Agriculture, of the Alexandriou TEI of Thessaloniki, is located in the capital of Central Macedonia, Thessaloniki, a city of easy road access from all over the mainland. The Department seeks to utilize the comparative advantages of the region of Thessaloniki, as one of the most fertile agricultural areas of Greece, but also a hub of international trade. The location of the Department of Agricultural Technologists outside the city (in the area of Sindos), in a large area, allows for the implementation of many experimental designs of crop and animal production, providing the possibility of combining applied agricultural research with agricultural practice .
At the same time, the Department of Technological Agriculture, through its directions, has a significant presence in agricultural scientific events, participates in a number of national and research programs, while has developed important collaborations with other Higher Education Institutions, research, educational, social and productive agencies. and abroad. In recent years, the need for the presence and further supply of the Department has become more apparent, due to the national need for economic development with agriculture and the countryside as its main pillar, but also the opportunities arising from the dynamics of the agri-food sector as a dynamic and extroverted sector. of the Greek economy.
